Unlike low-cost government housing, social housing is about more than merely providing places to stay. It’s about human development through the promotion of healthy and sustainable communities that are not only built-up, but properly maintained.
An example of EHC’s community focused strategy, is the aftercare facility that has been made available for children who need taking care of while their parents are still at work during the day.
The crèche at the Uthingo Park development is another facility where over 70 children have been enrolled.
There is also a food garden which the community maintains, and we hope in the near future to open a store where the produce can be sold.
Another more recent development, is the opening of a sewing and knitting centre, where unemployed women are taught how to knit and sew in order to provide them with a means to earn an income.
